Any members of Keyworth and District U3A can join the Keyworth Ukulele Strummers, subject only to available places.
Non-KD U3A members are very welcome to come along for a taster session but if they wish to continue they will need to join the KD U3A: http://www.keyworthu3a.org.uk/
Apart from the KD U3A membership requirement there is nothing to stop you joining us. You don't need any previous musical experience and you won't need to read music. We do sing to accompany our playing - and we've got a few good voices among us - but the quality of your singing isn't an issue, even if you think you're tone deaf!
If you're an absolute beginner Doug, our most experienced and very helpful strummer, will provide individual support to guide you through the basics.
For a taster session we can (usually) lend you a ukulele. If you decide to continue you will need to buy one of your own but they are modestly priced, from about £20. (See FAQs for info re sizes). The Music Room upstairs in the Victoria Centre stocks a selection and there are several other musical instrument shops in and around Nottingham - Google will have the details. Buying online is another option but with musical instruments it's usually better to see what you're getting. You will also need a digital ukulele tuner (about £7 - £10). Other accessories such as straps are not essential and down to personal preference.
Printed materials are provided, including a Beginner's Pack (free) to get you started. Further items are sent by email, when prepared, for you to print at home. (We haven't got printing facilities but libraries usually have. if, in an emergency, we print an item for you the charge is 5p per sheet). You'll need an A4 ring binder to file it all in. At sessions you will need either a music stand or a clip-board to hold your song sheets etc.
The session fee is £2 which covers the hall rent, refreshments, printing and other sundries.
. . . And that's it! We meet on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month, 10 -12, in the Methodist Church Hall. We'll look forward to seeing you soon . . .
best wishes, Jacki (Group Leader)
